Selling Domain Names on Ebay

People are selling hundreds and thousands of domain names via ebay - but compared to the amount of people who start auctions and DON'T sell the domains this isn't really much.

I've tried my hand at trying to sell a few names via ebay.com and I've had mixed results. The thing is a good domain name can get lost amongst the thousands on rubbish high-priced domain names on offer.

There are names like "iOnlineGaming123UK.com" being listed for $50,000!!! And when nonsense like that is taking up space its easy to lose your auction listing unless you know how to do it properly.

Here a few things that I've been doing recently which has helped get more attention to my auctions - thus higher priced sales.

The Title is IMPORTANT

First of all the Title of your auction MUST contain "domain name" + the keyword your name is related to and maybe even the type of domain name it is... example:

If I wanted to sell "iDesign.com" the title I would use would be something like this:

"Design .com Domain Name Short Brandable"

or if I was selling "UTGK.com" then:

"Short Premium Domain Name 3,4,5 Letters UTGK.com"

Capitalize each Keyword

Capitalize all the keywords and try to describe the domain and also think about what people would be searching for and for what search terms you want your auction listing to show up for.

Including Free PSD Logos

Another thing I've been doing recently is making a logo for domain names. Something very quick and easy that best describes the domain name. Also offering the Logo with PSD files as part of the sale seems to help if the logo looks nice.

Using Hot Girls Photos to Sell

Something I don't do myself but have seen others doing is using photos of good looking girls to get peoples attention. I've found myself clicking onto auctions like this - so I guess it kinda works sometimes. But be careful not to use anything obscene and also remember some people (at offices /work/school etc) will most likely NOT click your auction if it looks like its some adult related site/content.

Promoting the Auction

If you join domaining communities such as NamePros.com or DigitalPoint.com you can use relevant parts of the forums to promote you current auction. You could also have links in your signature to your auction pages.

Notifying Potential End-users

But the best way is to actually do some research before you even start the auction and find potential end-users for the domain name. If you domain name is say "BuyGoldWatches.com" then do a search in google for those keywords to see which sites come up and more importantly look at the sponsored links to see who's advertising using those keywords. They will most likely be interested in your domain name.

Contact these people to tell them that your domain will be going up for auction - or better still ask them to make you an offer before it goes to auction.

What else?
Hmmm... that's all I could think of right now, but I'm sure there are other tips and tricks that people use - if you have some tips then please leave a comment.
