The Felon - Val Kilmer (Movie Review)
I've watched so many poor movies recently that I expected this to be just the same. The Felon, Starring Stephen Dorff, Val Kilmer and Sam Shephard has brought some hope back to modern movies. The movie is about a guy called Porter (played by Stephen Dorff) who ends up in prison for murder. He is a hardworking guy who has just got his business to where he wants, has a lovely child and is about to get married to his long-term girlfriend. Things are looking up for him, but not for long! Soemone breaks into his house and in trying to protect his family he chases the thief out with a baseball bat. The thief looks like hes about to pull out a weapon and Porter swings his bat instinctively and kills the man with one hit. It turns out he thief had no weapon and Porter gets done for murder. He is initially given a 3 year sentence of which he can serve 15 months and be out - but it doesn't exactly turn out like that. Problems start from the moment he steps into prison and other inmates / gangs get Porter into trouble. The prison is no normal prison either - the guards let the convicts fight in a closed room while they watch and place bets. I won't go into much more detail as it will give away too much, but the movie has a good plot, good acting and a good ending too. Definitely worth watching.
